Additional Information: Interns are recruited from among nationals of WTO Members state. Interns will have completed their undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline, and shall have completed at least one year of their postgraduate studies. The minimum age for an intern shall be 21 years and the maximum age 30 years. A roster of suitable candidates is maintained from which interns are selected. In addition to the regular internship programme, the need may also arise to recruit interns at short notice for particular tasks. These recruits will also be drawn from the roster. Names will not be maintained on the roster for longer than one year. Contractual Terms and Conditions: Paid interns receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 (including week-ends and official holidays falling within the selected period). No other remuneration of any kind shall be paid. Internships take place in Geneva, Switzerland only. Travel expenses to and from Geneva cannot be paid by the WTO, and such travel is not covered by the Organization's insurance. Interns are also responsible for their own insurance cover for illness and accidents while they are working at the WTO. The WTO may also employ unpaid interns funded from external sources. Internships are generally of a duration of up to 24 weeks, the length of the internship depending on the project the interns is requested to work on, and on the needs of each Division. The granting of an internship does not entail in any way the right to an extension thereof nor to a vacancy in another part of the Secretariat. Interns may nevertheless apply to external vacancies. Internships can start at any time during the year. An internship can be terminated by the WTO Secretariat or by the intern with one week's notice. The Director responsible for an intern will write an evaluation report at the end of the internship, and the intern will also be required to evaluate the internship. Both evaluations will be placed on file. An agreement will be established between the intern and the Director of the Human Resources Division, specifying the conditions of service and details of any remuneration. Interns are treated like secretariat staff members during their stay insofar as their obligations, in particular with regard to confidentiality. |

General Functions Under the supervision of the Chief, Official Documents and Records, the incumbent will manage and administer the WTO Central Registry of Notifications (CRN) and all associated services; updating and maintaining the registry database in co-ordination with staff in the Documents Management, Monitoring and Production Section. The incumbent will perform the following functions: 1. Receive and process all notifications submitted by Members for inclusion in the CRN and act as a focal point for enquires and information on notifications. 2. Provide relevant information and support services to Members and liaise with divisional representatives in the Secretariat on notification issues. 3. Index notifications entered in the registry database according to their content and specific trade/product coverage. 4. Update, modify or correct value lists and notification requirements in conjunction with divisional representatives. 5. Produce periodic reports and statistics on the state of notifications for both Members and the Secretariat; remind Members of their obligations to notify and, in conjunction with the division concerned, request outstanding information from Members who have not fulfilled their notification requirements. 6. Supervise the work of the CRN assistant and provide training and instruction. 7. Participate in ongoing discussions on the future evolution of the notification process within the WTO Secretariat. 8. The WTO is looking for a temporary Dispute Settlement (DS) Registrar Assistant in the Legal Affairs Division. | ||
General Functions Under the guidance of the Dispute Settlement (DS) Registrar, the incumbent may be asked to undertake some of the following tasks in the DS Registry: 1. Review archived dispute files (both paper and electronic copies) to ensure they are in line with the standards set by the WTO Archive Unit. This task may include reviewing the content of dispute record boxes (submissions, exhibits and annexes), and saving specific files in the Records Management Application (RMA). 2. Fulfil various basic functions for the Digital Dispute Settlement Registry software application (DDSR), including: a) updating the inactive disputes docket sheets to make them conform to the DDSR standards; b) formatting DDSR technical assistance material (slides, mock cases, etc.); c) creating new accounts; and d) assisting in the launch of the DDSR pilot project. 3. Maintain filing systems; file and retrieve correspondence and documents in established filing systems; help prepare official records for appeal; and retrieve and send official records to archives using the RMA. 4. Process dispute settlement communications from delegations. The task will include organizing files, processing incoming correspondence, sending physical and electronic documents to dispute settlement panelists, keeping DS Registry records (including docket sheets). | ||

Education: Completion of secondary education. Clerical and/or document management training or experience. Specific post-secondary training in clerical and/or document management skills or paralegal, legal secretary or other specialized legal studies would be an asset. | ||

Ability to work as a member of a team; to work harmoniously with Secretariat Staff in a multi-cultural environment; and to work efficiently and independently.
